🐔 CAWi Cage-Free Program

CAWi’s Cage-Free Program promotes better welfare for laying hens in the Democratic Republic of Congo by raising awareness, engaging farmers and food businesses, supporting students and communities, and advocating for more humane and sustainable egg production systems.

CAWi’s Cage-Free Program seeks to advance farm animal welfare in the Democratic Republic of Congo by promoting a gradual transition toward cage-free systems for laying hens. The program combines research, education, community engagement, farmer dialogue, corporate outreach, and advocacy. CAWi works with universities and students to increase understanding of factory farming and animal welfare, while engaging farmers and food businesses to explore practical and locally appropriate pathways toward cage-free egg production. Through public awareness campaigns and partnerships, the program aims to encourage informed consumer choices, strengthen the capacity of local advocates, and support businesses willing to make meaningful cage-free commitments. By bringing together students, farmers, businesses, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders, CAWi seeks to build a collaborative movement for more humane, sustainable, and responsible food systems in the DRC.
